One to watch

The current debate about the prospective battle confronting the BBC (your report, 15 July) is one of the most depressing things I have encountered for a long time.

During the run-up to the Scottish referendum one of the least attractive consequences foreseen for a Yes result was of the probable impact on BBC broadcasts.

The SNP wanted a Scottish Broadcasting organisation – and it is not difficult to see how limited that would have been.

So it is galling to discover that the so-called unionist party currently in power in Westminster could have even worse effects on what can watch on the BBC.
