Oil fables

Gaffe of the week surely goes to Brian Wilson (Perspective, 12 November) for suggesting the Scottish Government’s “tortoise-like” referendum timetable impacts negatively on the Scottish oil industry.

Does he not remember the opportunity Labour missed at Holyrood in 2007 to support the SNP’s referendum legislation when it was first proposed?

With help from Labour’s allies in the Lib Dem and Conservative groups, we could have had the referendum five years ago.

And perhaps Brian might remind us, in Aesop’s “hare and tortoise” fable, who was it who won the race.
