Off track

ScotRail's station timetables, with their complex mass of finely printed data, need to be made more user-friendly by highlighting details of the departure/arrival times relevant for each local station (your report, 24 July).

At present, those notices relating to routes and services over huge geographic areas, make it a herculean challenge of good eyesight and spatial judgment for the average passenger to identify the information relevant to their journey from A to B. Yet the simple expedient of highlighting departure times from each "home station" would be a huge improvement.

Whilst previous employment of such low cost/low technology was appreciated by ScotRail's customers in the past, it seems a task too bothersome in today's privatised railway.

Yet a reply from First ScotRail management nearly three years ago confirmed that my suggestion was "useful" and "would receive consideration". Will ScotRail managing director Steve Montgomery please now insist that such a customer service improvement is applied immediately, and consistently, throughout the network?
