Off the fairway

Duncan Macmillan's snide aside that Aberdeen council "stood up to Donald Trump only to be shamefully betrayed by the Scottish Government" (Arts, 16 February) is a parody of the facts.

First, it was Aberdeenshire Council that was dealing with Mr Trump, not Aberdeen City Council. Second, the overwhelming majority of councillors in the shire are now, and always have been, in favour of the Trump golf project.

To its great credit, the Scottish Government managed to rescue the council from a procedural blind alley and the matter was finally settled to most people's satisfaction at a public local inquiry.

Perhaps your arts correspondent should stick to his chosen subject because, clearly, when it comes to golf, he is off the fairway and in the rough.
