‘Odious’ request

Alyn Smith MEP (Perspective, 23 January) attempts to close down debate on immigration by describing as “odious” Gordon Brown’s call for “British jobs for British workers”.

I am happy to be described as “odious” as I fully support “Scottish jobs for Scottish workers” in the same way that I support “Scotland’s fish for Scottish fishermen”. Mr Smith challenges Ukip leader Nigel Farage to a debate on immigration despite Mr Farage not having a vote in Scotland.

I challenge Mr Smith to come and debate immigration with the working-class community of Oxgangs who do have the vote in Scotland.
