O’Brien’s disgrace

Pope Francis I has finally stripped Keith Michael Patrick O’Brien of his cardinalship and associated privileges. This is an unprecedented step: never before in the history of the Catholic Church has a cardinal been demoted for his sexual conduct.

I wonder whether my own university, St Andrews, should not consider stripping O’Brien of the honorary degree it bestowed to him in 2004.

I, for one, would not recognize as a colleague someone who admitted abusing his position of power for sexual gratification with subordinates.
