I agree with Willie Morrison (Letters, 8 February) about the misnaming of our monarch.

I noticed in your photo of the recently repainted former Royal Yacht Britannia that the Royal Standard shown had the English quarterings. As the ship is now permanently moored in Scotland, does respect not demand that it display the Scottish quarterings?

Those who anguished over whether the Queen was the first or second Elizabeth (Letters, 9 February) forget that the creation of the United Kingdom reset the British monarchy, abolishing the previous kingdoms.

Thus the Queen is the first of that name in the UK, a fact overlooked when she was crowned.
