Nuisance calls

In response to a letter you published (29 April) regarding nuisance calls, BT takes the issue of nuisance calls very seriously and works with Ofcom, industry and consumer groups.

We’ve launched the BT8500 Advanced Call Blocker, BT’s most advanced call blocking phone to date, stopping up to 100 per cent of nuisance calls.

It can intercept all calls from people not on its contact list. It asks unrecognised callers to announce their name prior to being connected, allowing users to accept or reject the call.

Rejected numbers are stored so they are blocked automatically if they call again and the phone can store up to 1,000 specific blocked numbers.

BT has also improved the network, so the Caller Display service can now display full telephone numbers calling from abroad. BT customers can get Caller Display for free if they sign up to a new 12-month line rental contract.

BT customers can get further advice by calling our Nuisance Calls Advice Line on 0800 661 441 and we also publish information about stopping unwanted calls on www.bt.com.
