Not so green

THE Drax biomass electricity generating plant uses trees felled in US which are turned into pellets, then sailed 4,000 miles to the UK, then loaded on to a train and taken to Drax and burned in place of coal. Green? Hardly.

The coal created 1018kg CO2e/MWh but wood pellets were far higher at 3032. Drax also gets a subsidy for every MWh generated from these pellets and we pay. Still think biomass is green?
