Northern Ireland warning to Tories

I AM surprised at the announcement by Murdo Fraser that he wishes to discard the Conservative Brand in Scotland (News, 4 September).

What is more surprising is the apparent support from senior London Conservatives. If ever he needs an example of where this has been tried he should look to Northern Ireland where the UCUNF project failed miserably at the last Westminster elections.

From our experience in Northern Ireland the message from the grass roots is that they do not want any change to the name or any attempt at re-branding.

What is needed is a local approach to local situations under the Conservative brand.
