No surrender

The general premise of Richard Longfield’s letter (“Avoid the discord”, September) is inescapable. There could certainly be some damaging consequences following a No majority in the referendum.

But his conclusion, and the solution suggested, that we simply surrender in the interests of a quiet life goes against every principal of British behaviour.
