No surprises

Yet again, documents made available under the 30-year rule reveal the depth of calculated deception practised by Margaret Thatcher’s government (your report, 3 January).

Documents show how she and her ministers, in an attempt to “make invisible” funding cuts to the Scottish Government, lied and lied.

She and her government also denied Arthur Scargill’s claims that they had a “hit list” of pits that they intended to close. Any dissenting voices were subjected to scorn and derision by the government and the Tory press.

How any sensible person can now believe a word written or said by this government in support of the Better Together campaign, frankly. beggars belief.
