No neverendum

After a narrow or even large majority for No, the separatists will immediately demand another referendum, although I believe it should be parked for a generation.

In the event of a Yes vote, however narrow, there is no obvious way back. Salmond and his cohorts have constantly stated as fact matters over which they have no control, such as a currency union, defence jobs on the Clyde, charging English students university fees, border controls and entry to the EU with all the UK concessions. The list is endless.

If, after a Yes vote, any or all of these fail to materialise, the referendum should be declared null and void as the population have been seriously misled and voted on one vision of the future but will get something completely different.

Some may well have voted differently if the truth had been told. The SNP will even be guilty of gross malpractice and should disband as it will have been completely discredited and leave it to others to try to sort out the mess they have created.

Despite the protestation of the politicians that we will all work together whatever the result, enormous acrimony will continue within the general population for a very long time in a very divided country.

However, if it becomes clear that independence has been secured on the basis of false promises that acrimony will increase enormously.
