No faith in MPs

Professor Charlie Jeffery of the ESRC Centre on Constitutional Change at Edinburgh University (your report, 15 October) is reported as having uncovered evidence of a “growing sense of English political identity”.

Although it might be argued that the referendum has been instrumental in voters losing faith in the big three parties, it is much more likely that – and I have to say, at last – the electorate north and south of the Border is registering its dissatisfaction with the current political status quo which does not reflect the views and aspirations of the vast majority of people.

Politicians of all shades must recognise this and start, genuinely, to serve those who elected them.
