New tradition

Back in the 1970 when I wrote the Greyfriars Bobby song, it was considered good luck to touch the tail on the wee dog’s statue and make a wish. But rubbing his nose? What a nonsense!

Funny that this latest outbreak of vandalism (your 
report, 5 October) should coincide with freshers’ week, as, of course, did the moronic pouring of yellow paint over the wee fellow on a previous occasion.

Jings, they’ll be telling us Bobby really was a Skye terrier next.
