Naval concerns

the SNP government states that with the closure of the naval building yard at Portsmouth the Scottish yards will be the only place in Britain where naval ships can be built (your report, 14 July). This is true at present and will
remain true if the No voters
have a majority in the referendum. However, if the Yes voters have a majority, then the British government will be under enormous pressure to reopen the Portsmouth yard. The British government has already indicated that it is very unlikely to order naval fighting ships from foreign yards, so the SNP reassurances are hopelessly naive.

Babcock and West Dunbartonshire MP Gemma Doyle are right to be concerned about the possibility of major job losses in the event of a majority Yes vote.
