Natural damage

I know nothing about golf, so leave it to independent experts to judge whether or not Donald Trump’s Aberdeenshire course is “one of the greatest courses ever built” as he claims (Letters, 2 July), but since Scotland has around 600 golf courses already, I find it hard to see why any more need to be built.

However, I deplore the way in which he has destroyed the site of special scientific interest at Menie.

When I was a biology student at Aberdeen nearly 50 years ago field trips to the dunes there were a key part of our course and there is no substitute for learning about our irreplaceable environment through hands-on experience and practical experimentation.

It is difficult to over-state the damage he has done to our scientific heritage, and the least he could do is to show a little more humility.
