Nats don't hate

Following the anti-English insults he has endured, Richard Lucas (Letters, 1 March) might wish to reflect on the statement of Robert Bontine Cunninghame Graham's (1852-1936): "The enemies of Scottish nationalism are not the English, for they were ever a great and generous folk, quick to respond when justice calls. Our real enemies are among us, born without imagination."

As for the SNP being anti-English, the party's raison d'tre is independence for Scotland.

This would automatically mean independence for England, which would, allegedly, provide massive financial benefits for the English as they are led to believe that they subsidise Scotland. In addition they would be able to legislate in an English Parliament without being obstructed by MPs from Scottish constituencies.

With all this SNP support for England's independence, the SNP certainly cannot be accused of Anglophobia.
