Nato’s Afghan role

Will there be a deafening silence from Holyrood about the Taleban’s certain rule of Afghanistan when Nato forces pull out altogether (your report, 5 October)?

A decade of wasted Nato and Afghan lives associated with crippling injuries following on from the USA’s setting up of the Taleban in the first place seems just to have got nowhere.

Afghan girls and women in particular will be crushed again.

The recent assassination of some of the few women police officers there is a clear indication of “Western” policy’s failure to
establish and then maintain a fairer society.

Our influential women should be the ones to speak up most loudly about the consequences of fundamentalist determination to control Middle-Eastern and north African countries and enforce the strictest Sharia traditional practices on the populaces.
