National issue

Annabel Goldie is correct in stating that as long as Scotland remains governed as a region of the British state, then no matter how many seats the Tory Party wins in Scotland it would still have a mandate to govern in Scotland from Westminster, should it win the next election (your report, 21 January).

I do not regard this as being "anti-Scottish" it is just stating a fact, which applies to all other regions of Britain. What I would dispute is her claim that the election in Scotland is a choice between unionism and nationalism. I have never understood why regarding Britain as your nation is less nationalistic than supporting, as I do, a Scottish nationality. Ms Goldie is right to remind us just how little power we have in Scotland to decide our own destiny.
