Named person

At present, the Scottish administration is imposing a scheme whereby all children will be allocated to a “named person”, or guardian, who will oversee their upbringing until they are 18.

Is there another country on earth that has such an intrusive policy? Parents are to be over-ruled if a state-appointed official who they probably do not even know disagrees with anything they do, if it does not meet the amorphous tests of “love, hope and spirituality”. How does one judge those?

It may include chastising their child, the food they feed them, or the medicine they give them.

Surely, if the government is looking into the powers it gives to Scotland, it should also look at taking some away.
