Murray’s moment

At the last general election in 2010 Ian Murray apologised to the other elected Labour MPs for having been returned with a reduced majority from the previous election, whereas all the rest had increased their victory margins.

How times have changed in the course of one parliament. Now he is not only the sole
Labour MP to have increased his majority but also the lone Scottish representative of the Labour Party in the House of Commons.

Ian Murray was one of a number of people involved in the successful rescue of the Heart of Midlothian Football Club.

That experience will stand him in good stead if he is to restore the fortunes of the Scottish Labour Party.
