Muir wind alert

It was excellent news to read (your report, 30 December) that John Muir is to be honoured in his country of birth. One can only imagine the sorrow he would feel, as the founding father of the modern conservation movement which sought to save the world’s precious wild lands, if he was to visit Scotland’s countryside today.

He would have been the first to demand an end to the destruction of our wild lands by wind farms and he would have undoubtedly sought to protect our beautiful countryside from further encroachment.

I hope someone will mention this to Alex Salmond when he opens the new long-distance path in Dunbar in April at John Muir’s birthplace.
