Mosul Christians

George Peden (Letters, 29 July) does well to alert readers to the persecution of Christians in Mosul and the surprising lack of attention by the Church of Scotland.

In fact, for what is called by our Prime Minister “still a Christian country” both media and political parties have been shamefully silent about what the highly respected former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sachs has called “one of the great crimes against humanity of our time” comparing the persecution of Christians in the Middle East with the Jewish pogroms in Europe.

For Mr Pedens’ information, the Barnabas Trust is an excellent charity concerned with such persecution and archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.co.uk is a good source of information about what is actually happening (including recent lamentations direct from Canon Andrew White, the anguished Vicar of Baghdad).
