More Scots please

Andrew Eaton-Lewis quotes Joyce McMillan as saying: “How people can say the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) never does anything in Scots is beyond me. At least three-quarters of what they do has a strong Scottish voice.” This implies that both of them confuse the Scots language with English with a Scottish accent.

The NTS does not do a reasonable part of its repertoire in “guid braid Scots”, though I wish it did.

If Andrew Eaton-Lewis has difficulties with artistic Scottishness the phrase that springs to mind is “fare ye weill”. When he has learned that the well-springs of art are in the collective unconscious of a culture he will be welcomed back.
