Moorland disaster

The issue of carbon emissions and global warming is critical to the future of our planet. Yet gamekeepers are still burning off peat moorland at an alarming rate to encourage the growth of new heather to feed grouse. The grouse are then killed by shooters paying up to £4,000 a day for their "sport".

Such "management" causes serious damage and contributes to global warming. When burning is combined with the digging of "grips" (narrow ditches), peat bogs are drained of moisture. Excess water running off the moors threatens to flood downstream towns, and vast areas of burnt-off heather create a uniform landscape - disastrous for biodiversity.

The shooters care as little for the planet and human beings as the birds they ruthlessly destroy.
