Money matters

Now that the Governor of the Bank of England has said in a speech to the TUC that there is unlikely to be a currency union between rUK and an independent Scotland it is incumbent on the First Minister to let us know what we will be using post-2016 if there is a Yes vote.

We know that Dennis Canavan, Jim Sillars and Patrick Harvie all want a separate Scottish currency (which can be pegged to the pound) and many of my neighbours have expressed the same wish.

As my family wish to remain here even if there is a Yes vote, we feel we could support a separate currency as this would lower not raise tensions with what will be our bigger and more powerful southern neighbour.

Paradoxically, as a No voter I would prefer proper independence and a good relationship rather than pseudo-independence with decisions being made with no regard to Scotland’s interest.

Mr Salmond has quoted Mark Carney often enough; will he respond to Mr Carney’s latest comments and offer us something that perhaps the whole nation could get behind?
