MoD inquiry

Considering that the last time the Ministry of Defence was asked to reopen its inquiry into the Chinook accident on the Mull of Kintyre accident it declined to do so on the grounds that there was no new evidence (11 January, 2010), it is surprising that it would agree to do so now ("New inquiry into 'injustice' of Chinook crash findings", 27 May); there is still no new evidence, despite what campaigners seeking to clear the pilots claim (no software faults

Claiming that there was an "injustice" and that the verdict on the pilots should be quashed rather undermines the idea of an independent inquiry. The call for one is only made by those who want the pilots exonerated.

The proper grounds for an inquiry should be to find the cause of the accident. The senior RAF officers, who rightly condemned the pilots for ignoring safety rules, did not even seek the cause.
