Mistaken over urban tractors

I SUPPOSE it was predictable the first really snowy winter for 20 years would lead to rising demand for 4x4 vehicles (News, 14 February).

Still, as I witnessed over the New Year period, having one of these urban tractors does not make one any more adept at actually driving in the snow. To the woman who slithered her way about Hillend Ski Centre, next time take the bus!

Meanwhile, I suppose we will all get used to seeing more of these cars daring the drive to the supermarket or the kids' school, as we await the next significant fall of snow in 2030.

I WISH to point out two errors in your report on 4x4s. The most popular vehicle by readers of Autocar is the Range Rover, not the Defender. The road tax of 905 applies to all new cars over a certain CO2 emission and is only for the first year, after that it reverts to 440.
