Love him or loathe him, Kenneth Clarke (your report, 6 October) is rare among Westminster politicians with his willingness to go “off message” and therefore, rare among MPs, he represents reasonable value for money.
I have never understood why, with the Westminster Parliament, we employ 650 members of parliament but they still only appear to have four opinions.
