Men let their hearts rule their minds on independence

FOR me the standout statistic in the referendum poll (News, 18 May) is the great disparity between male and female 
respondents: males, 44 No to 41 Yes, females 48 No to 27 Yes, with a much higher proportion of females undecided.

This would seem to confirm George Galloway’s characterisation of support for independence as a “Hampden roar” rather than a measured and thoughtful response. We have the tribal, chest-beating menfolk running mindlessly into battle while the pragmatic, sceptical women look to the 
realities and wait for some 
actual evidence of what it is they would be voting for.

It’s a stereotype, obviously, but there it is.
