Dr Richard Marsh (Letters, 10 June) is wrong to suggest that medical professionals in an independent Scotland “will have to qualify in a foreign country” – unless he considers Scotland foreign. They will, as now, qualify in Scotland.
Whether, if they mean to work in Scotland, they will register their qualifications with a Scottish registrar or council, or with a UK or European one, remains to be seen.
The immediate likelihood is that the present United Kingdom General Medical Council will continue to register medical practitioners from all of the countries of the present UK, but if it becomes necessary it would not be difficult to make other arrangements.
