Matter of opinion

I AM no mathematician, but surely an opinion poll based on just over 1,000 over-16s, only about half of whom intend to vote in the forthcoming European Parliament elections in May, cannot be read as having any real significance (your report, 28 January).

In addition, the reference to the Scotland on Sunday poll on the referendum – based on 1,004 people, only finding 44 eligible 15 to 17-year-olds prepared to give a view and at times not counting the “don’t knows” – can in no shape or form be interpreted as “revealing the SNP is within reach of victory”. Opinion polls? Don’t see it myself.
