Marx bothers

In response to Ellis Thorpe,
(Letters, 10 November) there is nothing philosophical about Marx because his philosophy is simply theft and envy given a pseudo-intellectual veneer.

Marxism is also based on the ad hominem logical fallacy, attacking opponents as “bourgeois”. The so-called philosophy of Marx denies that man even has free will, claiming that his economic outlook is determined by the circumstances of his birth.

There is nothing humanist about the ideas of Marx, and capitalism is not a religion, as implied by the comment “fundamentalist free market capitalist society”.

The question has to be asked: “Where is this capitalist society?” So-called free market capitalist society is, in fact, a series of highly regulated and taxed mixed economies that have all implemented the interventionist measures in the Communist manifesto, such as central banks and progressive taxation.
