Marriage dilemma

with regards to Paul Brownsey’s and Tim Hopkins’ letters (24 November) regarding same-sex marriage, what is a teacher to do when faced with sex education lessons if compelled to teach what goes against deeply-held convictions – that marriage is actually between a man and a woman?

What is an adoption agent to do if he or she believes that the best for children is (as scientifically, peer-reviewed research has shown) to have a mother and a father, but is compelled by law to change that stance?

There will be no “conscience clauses” in these situations. So, there are only two options: either that person acts contrary to their beliefs (without being allowed to explain that they, and many others, hold an alternative view), or they lose their job (or are not even able to apply for such a job).

It may rightly be said that we need to obey the law of the land, with which general statement I would agree, but many people will be facing a serious dilemma in terms of their employment as a result of this proposed legislation.
