Margo, on merit

We are the poorer for the passing of Margo MacDonald MSP, a genuine conviction politician.

She had a sharp intellect, but was able to communicate her views in a clear and honest manner, in terms that the ordinary man or woman could understand.

Sadly, her independence of spirit meant she would never fit in to a parliament where to have original views and honestly held opinions that differed from the party line seemed to be regarded as a crime.

She was, quite simply, a class act and head and shoulders above the majority of those she sat with.

In a meritocracy, Margo would have headed the parliament.
