Low productivity

Stan Hogarth (Letters, 7 March) complains about the number of people using mobile phones while they are supposed to be doing other jobs.

While I agree with him when it comes to people who are directly charging you for their time, I have to argue in favour of those using their phones, within reason, for personal reasons.

The world of work has changed dramatically in the past few years, and it is rare for people to work fixed hours and not be expected to come in earlier, work later, and work through their breaks – if they get them.

Some people simply have no choice.
