Lost in translation

IT APPEARS from your report (22 November) that Jonathan Mills has learnt nothing from the poor audiences reported for this year’s festival.

Yet again he proposes major drama productions in foreign languages (Macbeth in Polish and A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream in Russian).

Might I make the novel suggestion to Mr Mills that he organises productions of these plays in the original English? It certainly worked in the past as I recall sell-out performances at the Assembly Hall of a large part of the Shakespearian canon with performers of the calibre of Ian McKellen, Derek Jacobi, Janet Suzman, Timothy West and others.
