Lost generation

I was horrified to read the latest report (14 November) on Scottish education achievements which revealed that 27 per cent of 16-year-olds had no educational qualifications whatsoever.

This is a grim outlook for one in four kids in Scotland leaving school without any qualifications and entering a dismal job market with little prospect of securing work of any quality and simply adding to the swelling unemployment figures.

What on earth has happened to our once proud Scottish education system which now seems to have gone off the rails blindly following a Curriculum for Excellence pie in the sky path to nowhere?
