Losing faith

Neil Sinclair (Letters, 25 March) tells us that science proceeds on the basis of trying to falsify by experimentation . Sir Karl Popper told us this long ago. However , the same falsification process has not been successful in relation to God, as yet . So, how is it that Mr Sinclair can dismiss religious faith as “magical” belief?

By scientific logic, atheism is illogical and agnosticism (ie not being sure) ought to be the default position of even non-believers. It is a pity that the small but voluble Scottish secular lobby, following the axioms of its gurus such as Richard Dawkins, has adopted an attitude of trying to ridicule faith and belief, and in particular Christian belief . One fears for tolerance of Christian belief in any brave new “secular” society that they would have us all live in.
