Listen up

I absolutely agree with Joyce McMillan's criticisms of the present crop of political and business leaders (Opinion, 19 June).

I fear nothing will change, however, until a system is created which allows – or forces – the ruling elites in politics, industry and banking to listen to opinions other than those of their ruthlessly ambitious and avaricious cliques whose contempt for any kind of democracy would do justice to the worst excesses of the autocratic monarchs of the past.
