Light fantastic

I agree entirely with Judith Seith (Letters, 16 December) on the darkness of Edinburgh Castle in the gardens.

Why cannot the Castle be illuminated every night when the town is full of visitors? The railings round the water fountain should also be removed; they are so ugly. What is wrong with Edinburgh? We have a gem like Princes Street Gardens yet we do nothing to showcase it.
