Licence date

IN RESPONSE to Gordon Kennedy (Letters, 30 April) may I point out that the TV Licensing renewal system tries to minimise costs by having annual renewal dates. Weekly or daily renewal dates for each of the 25 million licences currently in force would result in extra admin costs of hundreds of thousands of pounds. This would not be a good use of money as this issue only affects a small proportion of people, generally those buying new licences rather than renewing.
