Libya liabilities

TONY Blair is rightly condemned for his part in creating the chaos in Iraq now being exploited by Islamic State but David Cameron is equally guilty of the nightmare descending on Libya.

In 2011, he played a leading role in Col Muammar al-Gaddafi’s removal by having the RAF bomb Tripoli, leaving ground operations to al-Qaeda proxies – regime change on the cheap. When in opposition he warned Blair “we cannot drop democracy from 10,000 feet” but later in No 10 he too found it impossible to have all that air power and not bomb something.

The result of our intervention was to undermine every Middle East secular ruler who protected his minorities and stood between us and the true enemies of the West.
