Liberal bias

Secularists may regard BBC Radio 4’s Thought for the Day as an example of religious privilege (Letters, 2 February), but it is nothing of the sort.

It is actually yet another example of BBC secular liberal bias. “Diversity”, in the BBC dictionary, is about including the voices of people from all religions, ethnicities, nationalities, genders, sexualities, ages and social classes, as long as they all think the same way – their way.

A talk focusing on supernatural beliefs or the distinctive core teachings of a religion would be deemed unsuitable.

A dose of common or
garden worldly wisdom, preferably left and liberal leaning, with a religious veneer is the usual fare.

Thought for the Day does not provide a platform from which to argue in favour of religious views, but conveys the implied message that religious people don’t have anything distinct
to say.
