Lib Dem benefits

The Liberal Democrats have a very clear position on child benefits (your report, 8 March). Vince Cable previously examined areas where savings could be made in the tax credit system. It was a discussion pamphlet, not a policy paper. At no point does Vince say that Liberal Democrats want to remove universal child benefits.

As Nick Clegg said in Perth, the Liberal Democrats are committed to universal child benefits. This is party policy.

Delighted as we are that the Labour Party recognises the threat we pose to them in seats across the country, we expect journalists to see through their disingenuous spin as the general election campaign heats up.
