Letters: Pack in day job

A number of points resulting from the General Election have attracted little comment.

First, the "protectors of the nation" Nationalists got only 80,000 more votes than the "hated" Tories. Second, rather than catapult the Liberal Democrats to second place, it seems that Nick Clegg's TV appearances rescued them from oblivion. Third, as long as taxpayers' money is provided through Westminster, the payroll vote of the Scottish public sector will always go to Labour.

Fourth, as our MSPs cavorted around Scotland electioneering it demonstrated how little they have to do in their day jobs and the case for halving Holyrood with a consequent reduction in public spending is overwhelming.
