Letters: How to get politics back to grass roots

WHILE I do not share all Gerald Warner’s political opinions I have to agree with his cynicism of this country’s political system and its politicians (Insight, 13 November).

We all know that all politicians are self-serving expenses and junket junkies. Most politicians are only concerned with getting themselves a safe seat so they can then pay lip-service to the electorate.

I have two suggestions; firstly, to become an MP/MSP you must have been born in or have lived in the constituency you wish to represent for at least 20 years, and secondly a politician can only serve for a maximum of two terms. This will stop politicians getting themselves elected for life in a “dead cert” constituency and stop politicians representing constituencies they know absolutely nothing about.
