Letters: Ducking and diving Lib Dems lack consistency

He would attract more sympathy in that role, and considerably greater credibility, if he were not a willing member of the Westminster coalition which proposes to sack these unfortunate workers and which has already closed RAF Leuchars and Kinloss.

Lib Dems were implacably opposed to the introduction of tuition fees – until they saw a greater prize.

Michael Moore wanted to disband the post of Scottish Secretary – until he was offered the post. Now Mr Crockart opposes his party’s policy on defence cuts – or at least those which land in his constituency. How very Lib Dem it all is!

What is it about these politicians which causes them to so readily duck and dive among their policies?

Scots can provide a clean example

SCOTLAND is well respected and admired throughout the world. Now that we have our own parliament, I would like to see our MSPs debate the possibility of banning pornography and horror films from our television and set an example to the rest of the world.

Scotland would then be admired for more than its scenery. If people agree they should contact their MSP.

Mind you, there are people with a vested interest which will make it a hard fight to implement.

Take good advice before investing

I WAS shocked to read about HSBC mis-selling care home payment policies to scores of vulnerable elderly people. For the thousands of elderly people and their families who bought into this who shouldn’t have, the pain continues.

HSBC’s “bumper payout” may go some way in alleviating the upset but this sum, or any sum for that matter, cannot make up for the confusion and upset caused.

It is important people take good, trusted advice. Advisors must then in turn look at the bigger picture aiming to ensure client needs are being met across the board.

There is no point in solving one problem which might be creating another elsewhere or ignoring issues that will have a knock-on effect.

Money is vital for important work

IT was with much pleasure I learned that the People’s Postcode Lottery has raised more than £15 million for charity since it began four years ago.

Last year WWF Scotland was nominated as a charity partner of the People’s Postcode Lottery and we have so far received over £260,000. This money is invaluable in helping us continue our important work in tackling climate change and protecting the natural world.
