Letter: Wrongs of rights

The latest ridiculous rights case, votes for prisoners (your report, 2 February), is a further example of the flawed nature of rights and their capacity to overrule our common sense of justice. It won't make a jot of difference though.

Rights are now a fundamental dogma of left-leaning politicians (so that's Scottish politics spoken for). Their desire to generously bestow rights on potential voters is strong, even starting in schools.

Significant sums are wasted producing various technicolour versions of children's rights to distribute to youngsters, who really need to learn about "right and wrong" not "my rights."
